How to Find Affordable Senior Housing Near You

As rent and housing costs continue to rise, it's no wonder that older adults on a fixed income are feeling the strain.

For over 60 years, AARP Foundation has been assisting people in obtaining essential needs, including housing. That's why we're providing guidance on how to locate affordable rental options and rent relief programs in your area.

Find Rent Relief Programs

If you’ve been struggling to make your rental payments or are in danger of being evicted, a rent relief program may help. Depending on the state where you live, rent relief can pay your past due payments so you’re caught up or your current payments for several months so you don’t fall behind. Some programs also include free legal services to help you avoid eviction.

Find Subsidized Rentals Near You

Did you know that there may be subsidized or low-cost rentals near you? The federal government and local governments both work to provide affordable housing options for people. The most well-known is the Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, which offers a variety of programs across the country.

Even if you think it will be a while before you need subsidized housing, we recommend applying and getting on the waiting list sooner rather than later.
